Marvel’s Phase 2 plans are moving into a higher gear: Avengers 2: The Age of Ultron has begun filming and is being primed for release on May 1st 2015. Captain America: The Winter Soldier has debuted a fantastic new trailer, and is out next month. The Ant-Man movie is a thing. But the most buzz is surrounding the new kids on the interstellar block – the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Despite being slated for release in late summer, we might be set for a taste of Marvel’s next super franchise at some point next week. Yahoo! Singapore dropped the news hand grenade that a trailer was forthcoming as soon as Tuesday the 18th. The revealing tweet was removed moments later by SHIELD agents, but not before several news sources noticed and began to get all foamy at the mouth.
Currently Marvel have only tickled the pink underbellies of the fans with teaser images and footage at last years Comic-Con, and only mere scraps have been released since. Cinemablend reports that a sequel to the yet un-released film is even in the works, alongside Thor and Captain America 3. Still no word on Robert Downey Jnr’s return as Iron Man, though.
Going back to the Guardians, I have managed to find one of the few little nuggets have escaped the tight-fisted clutches of the evil Disney Marvel empire thus far. Two little gems are included below – Test footage of Rocket Racoon and Groot in action. Played by Bradley Cooper (Hangover) and Vin Diesel (Pitch Black) respectively, these two interesting characters will join the likes of Zoe Saldana (Avatar), Dave Bautista (Riddick) and Chris Pratt (Zero Dark Thirty) as a bunch of intergalactic misfits. Imagine Firefly crossed with Lord of the Rings.
Guardians of the Galaxy opens on August the 1st, 2014.
