So it turned out the rumours were true; The Guardians of The Galaxy trailer is out, and it looks like it will be towing the Marvel line of outlandish characters, crazy action and sniggering humour. This follows a slew of new images and further details of the plot, all of which will be revealed after the jump.
Written and directed by James Gunn (of Troma and Thor 2 fame), Guardians of the Galaxy follows the half-human Star Lord (Chris Pratt – Zero Dark Thirty) as he and his crew of deviants evade pursuit from bounty hunters, and the mysterious Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace – The Hobbit). It would seem the Han Solo-inspired Lord steals the wrong alien super weapon (a glowy orb), and lands himself and his pals in a whole heap of trouble.
While the trailer doesn’t feature the villain, we do get an introduction to Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista – Riddick), Gamora (Zoe Saldana – Avatar), Rocket Racoon (Bradley Cooper – The A-Team), and Groot (Vin Diesel – Pitch Black). The film also promises to feature an outstanding ensemble cast including Michael Rooker, Benicio Del Toro as reprising his role of the Collector, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Peter Serafinowicz and Gregg Henry.
While the other Marvel films (with the exception of Thor) were grounded in a sense of reality, Guardians of the Galaxy seems to take the franchise intergalactic with space ships, ray guns, and a whole host of sci fi staples. Personally, I can’t wait.
Guardians of the Galaxy is released on August 14th 2014.
