Just like that whole thing about Sad Keanu, I bet that Leonardo DiCaprio (The Departed) is well aware of all the amusement caused by his lack of Oscar wins. However, his time for terrible, terrible revenge may have finally come. Soon, he could be smushing the blood of bears and Tom Hardy (Star Trek – Nemesis) into our once-smug, fat faces. He will stand above us, God-like, before braining us mercilessly with his golden war trophy.
Let it be known that The Revenant is coming. And awards are (likely) coming with him.

The Golden Age of action movies is certainly over. Yet the likes of JCVD, Schwarzenegger and other gnarled action legends are still kicking ass and working away at movie projects (such as Pound of Flesh and Maggie). But, if the heydays of the 80’s are over, you can bet your bottom dollar that the $30 million pay cheques are a thing of the past too.
It is no surprise that such movie behemoths turn to commercials for a quick buck. Now Sly Stallone is treating us to his own big fat slice of glorious exploitative advertising.

As my Dad always said, “You only get one chance to make a first impression”.
Hollywood knows this, and badass title sequences have since become big bidness. They’ve evolved significantly from the title cards of old. Now works of art in their own right, they are even directed and produced by entirely different people than the film itself.
From the likes of the various babe-infused arty Bond incarnations, to the wicked dark David Fincher openers (like this one), a memorable title sequence can set the tone for the 90 minutes to come.
One such ultra-memorable sequence all the way from 1995 is that of Ghost in the Shell.

It’s fair to say that X-Men Origins: Wolverine was all kinds of terrible. It couldn’t decide whether it was deadly serious or popcorn silly. Plus the CGI effects were 1980’s lame, and it alienated many nerd fans with it’s needless meddling with the X-Canon. A saving grace, however, was the inclusion of Ryan Reynolds (Blade Trinity, Green Lantern) as Wade Wilson, AKA Deadpool. While he apparently died at the end, we all hoped it wouldn’t be the last we’d see of the wise-cracking, fourth-wall-breaking super assassin.
Thankfully, Fox were well ahead of us.
